About: The story goes that Passmore Edwards, the philanthropist, wanted to have a hospital built at Newton Abbot in memory of his mother as this was her place of birth. However as the town already had a hospital he decided to build a public library instead......

About: This war memorial was erected in Newton Abbot in 1922. It was funded by public conscription and designed by Mr Coleridge-White. The figure of Victory which stands so majestically was sculpted by Mr Courtenay Pollock
