Beach At Blackpool Sands

Blackpool Sands is located in the South Hams of South Devon at the northern end of Start Bay. The beach is signposted from Dartmouth on the A379 between Stoke Fleming and Strete.
A popular beach with families, Blackpool Sands is a well maintained private beach with many attractions. It is a pretty cove flanked by evergreens and pines and it is nicely sheltered against the wind. A lovely sandy beach with some shingle stretching for two thirds of a mile. Facilities at Blackpool Sands include a caf? with outdoor seating and a restaurant, toilets including amenities for disabled visitors and there is also a disabled access to the beach which has a slipway. During the summer months there is a lifeguard and first aid facilities and also a lost child centre. Dogs are only permitted on the beach between October and March.
The water is clean, Blackpool Sands has been awarded both the Blue Flag Award and the Seaside Award and sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, surfing and bodyboarding are all popular at the beach. A bathing raft is an added attraction from June.
Overlooking Blackpool Sands is Blackpool Gardens a newly restored 19th century sub-tropical garden which offers spectacular views out across Start Bay. The gardens are a fascinating mix of winding walks with colossal cork trees alongside fascinating species of ferns and pendulous palms with many different varieties of botanical blossoms. Admission to the gardens is through Blackpool Sands car park Opening times are April to October 10.00am ~ 4.00pm.
