Church of St Michael
Place: Shebbear Category: Places of Worship Size: Wallpaper Size About: The church of St. Michael has some Norman work which includes a good doorway from around 1180. The nave and chancel are early 14th century in date although the window tracery has been restored. An evangelical curate was reported to have ripped out the chancel screen in 1812, but the parish got rid of him in turn. Today there is a good modern screen. The pulpit and reading desk are Jacobean and on the pulpit there is a grotesque figures which is worth close examination Photograph Added: 12th July 2011 |
