Place: Newton Abbot Category: Architecture Size: Wallpaper Size About: The story goes that Passmore Edwards, the philanthropist, wanted to have a hospital built at Newton Abbot in memory of his mother as this was her place of birth. However as the town already had a hospital he decided to build a public library instead. What a grand building it is, designed by the Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail the style very much Renaissance, with a lot of yellow terracotta mouldings over the windows and doorways.
